Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept any insurance plans and are considered out-of-network providers for all insurance carriers.

If you see one of our licensed therapists*, we can, however,  provide you with a "Superbill" for services rendered, which is an invoice including all of the information your insurance carrier will need for out-of-network submission. You may submit this directly to your insurance for any out of network benefits you may have.

Each insurance provider (e.g., Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna) and each individual plan (e.g., Blue Cross Blue Value vs. Blue Cross Blue Local) are different. If you are considering using your out-of-network benefits for Hughes Counseling & Sport Psychology services, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance provider to determine what out-of-network coverage you have. You will want to ask about deductibles, coverage rates for each therapy code, and percentage of fees covered out-of network. Treatment procedure codes that are often used are 90791 (Intake, non-prescriber), 90834 (Individual Therapy, 50 minutes), 90823 (Individual Therapy, 25 minutes), 90846 (Family therapy, without patient present), and 90847 (Family therapy, with patient present).

*Coaching sessions are not covered by insurance and thus would not count toward a deductible

Do you only work with athletes?

No! Our work is not limited to current or former athletes. See the about and services pages for more information.

What should I expect when I start working with you?

If you're ready to start or just want to learn more about services, contact us. You can also call the office phone (919) 213-7825. We will set up a free, 15-20 minute initial consultation call. If we are a good match based on what you want help with, we will schedule an appointment. Before meeting, you'll complete some paperwork that we will review in session.

We will spend most of the first session getting to know you and your goals. This process includes talking about current issues, but also about past events/issues, family history, and upbringing. We will also review clinic policies and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions. Together, we will create a plan to help you reach your goals - the plan will include what we talk about in sessions and how often we meet.
